What does it truly mean to be a man? In today's world,
men are confused by the mixed messages they hear and images they see.
There is the buffoonish overgrown child man. The chauvinistic
old-fashioned pig man. The hyper sensitive groomed metrosexual man.
The sports and violence loving warrior man. The work obsessed
emotionless business man. It is hard to find a clear definition of just
what it means to be a man.
In olden days, there were codes that men followed. They were sets of
rules and beliefs that governed how men should behave. It didn't matter
what kind of man you were, there were certain callings that all men
embraced. Protect the Weak and Defenseless. Respect the Honor of Women.
Guard the Honor of Fellow Warriors. These were unquestioned and
followed by real men. It is time to revisit those codes of old, in
search for a new Man Code for a modern age.
Geyer Springs First Baptist Church and Defender Ministries invite you to
REVISING THE MAN CODE Men's Conference Friday, February 17th & Saturday, February 18th. This conference will examine
those ancient codes in a modern light. How can those timeless
principles address the challenges of technology, pornography,
communication, ethics, and leaving a legacy? Each session blends humor,
videos, personal testimonies, exciting teaching, and helpful solutions
to reach men of all personalities and help them to become better
leaders, fathers, husbands, and men.
We will consider five specific areas that are at the heart of being a man...
and that's why we want our younger men to join you so conversations can
begin (or continue) at home on what manhood is from God's perspective.
Session One: Protect the Weak & Defenseless. One
of the biggest challenges we face in our culture is how to protect our
children
with technology. So from the start of this conference, you will get
some practical tools that can help you protect your children from the
dangers in cyberspace. But we will look at how we communicate with our
children (the words we use, what children hear).
And we will give you some practical direction on how you can make an
impact in your community.
Session Two: Guard the Honor of Fellow Warriors. This session give practical insight on servant leadership, accountability,
dealing with authority and humility.
Session Three: Respect the Honor of Women. This
is huge in our culture because we have so many wrong models for what
this looks
like. From dating to marital integrity, lust and pornography, how we
communicate with our wives and what we teach our children... this
session should give you a fresh perspective on what God expects of us
and a platform for conversations between you and your
children.
Session Four: Find Victory in Defeat. Mistakes,
addictions, failure. We all experience these almost daily as men. But
how do
you handle them? How do you find success in failure? How do you say
"I'm sorry", restore a relationship and forgive as God expects us to?
This session should give you insight into God's design for how we handle
life.
Session Five: Persevere to the End. Finishing
what you started... how often do you begin something and get
sidetracked along
the way? It's easy to do, but it can be dangerous when we do this to
our marriage, with our children and with our faith. This session will
give you practical help in how to build a legacy, mentoring, serving the
Lord with boldness. What we do now will echo
in eternity. How do we move forward with intention? This session will
help answer that question.
Because of some of the subject matter, we must have adult chaperones for
all teen-aged students (one chaperone will do, but we don't want kids
coming without a parent or grandparent or mentor).
